Balas Inc. was founded in 1967 by Mr. Joseph Drag and two other partners.
Balas' first facility was located in Franklin Park, Illinois.
As Balas grew, it earned a reputation for high quality precision grinding
and finishing when the requirements and delivery schedules were challenging.
A second location in Addison, Illinois and a third location in Sugar Grove,
Illinois were added to accommodate our customers' grinding requirements and
Balas' need for space to rebuild equipment.
In 1994, Balas built its current facility in Batavia, Illinois. This
facility was designed to handle grinding and heavy industrial uses.
Some of the features of the new location include:
- Grinding machine foundations
separated from the main floor in order to minimize vibrations.
- Centralized filtration
systems.
- Product storage and quality control
inspection areas.
- Separate, in-house machine shop to
produce customized fittings for our customers' products.
- 30 foot high ceilings to accommodate
20 ton cranes.
- Two truck bays to accommodate both
flat bed and enclosed trailers.
With the completion of this new facility
and installation of our 36" x 600" Norton grinder, the Addison and
Sugar Grove facilities were closed. The Franklin Park facility was eventually
closed to simplify customer logistics.
With the Batavia facility, Balas can now provide "full service" to its
current and future customers by handling extremely large specialty
grinding to large volume production grinding while improving on our
existing reputation for high quality work.
